Mount Pleasant is a city in Maury County, Tennessee. Mount Pleasant is the birthplace of Confederate Sam R. Watkins and formerly titled The Phosphate Capital of the World. The population was 4,491 at the 2000 censusand 4,579 2012. Mount Pleasant is located at 35°32′42″N 87°11′55″W (35.544977, -87.198683). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.1 square miles (29 km2), of which 11.1 square miles (29 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (0.18%) is water.
