Belton is a city in Cass County, Missouri, and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The population was 23,116 at the 2010 census.Belton is at 38°49′6″N 94°31′47″W (38.818232, -94.529838).According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.32 square miles (37.09 km²), of which, 14.25 square miles (36.91 km²) is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km²) is water.Belton was platted in 1871. It was likely named for surveyor Capt. Marcus Lindsey Belt.
